Over the past few years, smartphones have revolutionised from having simple features to more sophisticated ones. The year 2017 alone recorded a huge dramatic change, and now the smartphone market is filled with phones which have powerful capabilities. 2018 is now a new story with another generation of cutting-edge handsets coming up. This has been led by the launch of Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. Apple smartphones have continued to dominate the market ready for stiff competition with Samsung. iPhone X remains the best gadget released by Apple. Other device companies like LG, Oppo, Huawei and OnePlus are trying to penetrate the market with their products too. This is what’s to come this year:
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 The Korean tech giant has scheduled the device launch for August. It is expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 platform just like its predecessors the S9 and S9+. It has also been confirmed that the company’s virtual assistant known as Bixby will receive a major update on the Note 9. There may also be updates on Bluetooth and S Pen. However, there are reports that the Galaxy Note 9 may end up being a conservative upgrade from the current model than it has been thought. The reports indicate Samsung is saving its fingerprint sensor solution for Galaxy S10 which is probably going to be introduced in the next Note device. LG V40 Thinq The device may be one of the first smartphones ever to run the new Android P (Android 9.0 Petit Four) operating system. Its final release is rumored to be mid- August. It is likely going to have a 6.1in 4k 18.5:9 OLED screen and is rumored to contain five cameras. It has not been established why LG decided to include five cameras in this device. The device will also most probably include Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with Adreno GPU, 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage with a microSD support. Another flagship device from the same company, the LG G8 may be a huge competitor to the Galaxy S10. Due to such reasons, LG is going to seriously work on its devices to ensure they remain top in the smartphone market. The LG G8 is also tipped to contain an in-display fingerprint sensor and all-screen front route, probably with three cameras arranged at the back. OnePlus 6T The device from a Chinese manufacturer OnePlus is expected to arrive in November. Its predecessor the OnePlus 5T received remarkable sales over the past year. Hopefully, the OnePlus 6T is going to be an improvement of the OnePlus 5T. We shall witness advanced waterproofing technology and most probably wireless charging. There may also be a removal of the screen notch by default. Other features coming up include in display fingerprint scanner and three rear cameras. iPhone 2018 Early rumors indicate that Apple is going to redesign its iPhone X’s design to probably a bigger screen size. More reports are showing that Apple is contemplating on introducing a cheaper device which can match the iPhone X look only that the device will contain a cheaper LCD panel. Additional reports also indicate that Apple could be on its way to releasing three devices: a 6.5 -inch X Plus, a 6.1-inch iPhone 9 and 5.8-inch iPhone X sequel. Just like other smartphone companies, it may be introducing three rear cameras to one of its flagship devices. We will have to wait for Apple’s new phones so that we can witness what they had in store for us. Interestingly we may even see more Apple devices than we expected in 2018 alone. Google Pixel 3 Earlier on before the Pixel 2 launch, there was a rumor that there could be up to three versions of the phone. It never happened. Only two devices were released. Early reports indicate that the Mountain View tech company is believed to have planned a release of two devices together with another posh model of the Pixel 3. Google may also be planning to release some devices for its third-generation smartphones since it partially obtained HTC’s mobile division over the past year. Google’s new devices could be in stiff competition with Apple’s face ID technology with an iris scanner capable enough to be used for mobile payments rather than just facial unlock. A lot is expected of the pixel 3 as we near its release. Other tech giants are expected to make their smartphone announcements later on this year. They include Huawei with the Huawei Mate 20 scheduled for October, Asus which is likely to announce Zenfone 5, Sony, which is quite hard to predict its naming conventions, Xiaomi which is expected to launch Mi Mix 3 alongside Mi Note 4 and many more. |
