Why Go SIM ONLYContract phones are great because you receive a mobile phone (sometimes you have to pay a fee upfront for the phone but this is only for certain deals) and if insured you can get your phone replaced if it is stolen, lost or breaks.
There are some issues with this, however. If you find that your smartphone is old fashioned or slowing down, you have to wait until you're eligible for an upgrade on your contract. There's also a certain feeling of being trapped as well. If you suddenly decide the payment is too expensive or you want to try another contract, you have to wait until the end, or the nearing of it, to be able to leave. If you want to abruptly leave, you have to pay for the amount of money you owe for the existing months left. Contracts are not the only option, you can also try SIM only deals. SIM only without a contract involves just purchasing a SIM which has a number of minutes, data and texts on it. With a SIM only deal you are not tied down to a contract and instead of paying direct debit every month, it's just a small payment each month in order to get what you want. If you miss your payment you will not be harassed and in debt (as is the norm with contract) but instead you will just lose out on the Sim only perks. There are also SIM only contracts which are usually not as long as standard contracts for smartphones and so it seems like less of a commitment. They also cost a lot less. The downside of SIM only is that you have to supply your own smartphone. If you don't get insurance on a phone you purchase then you'll simply have to buy another one. Smartphones (at least high-quality ones) are very expensive and this can take a big chunk out of your income. Here are a few reasons why you might want to try SIM only instead of contract: 1. If you travel abroad, having a SIM only deal is usually the easiest and cheapest way to contact people. Sometimes, it's even cheaper to buy a SIM in the country you're visiting than get one from home. 2. SIM Only offers the pay as you go option, freeing you from obligation. 3. SIM Only contracts are shorter than normal contracts, usually lasting just a year. 4. You have a choice of smartphones that may be wider than what the contract provider may be able to offer. 5. It is actually cheaper to buy a brand-new smartphone and use a SIM only deal on it. When that phone is starting to slow or you want something else, you don't need to wait for any contract to be over and can simply sell the phone online to one of the many vendors. Then simply use the money you acquire to buy a new phone. 6. Being totally in charge of how much you spend on a non-contract SIM only is a great way to stay on top of your finances and budget. It is also possible to adjust if your circumstances suddenly change. 7. If you choose to go for a contract free SIM only then you're avoiding all of those complicated things that are included in contract phones. These include: fees for exiting early and overpaying on data tariffs. 8. Having a SIM only means you have the ability to jump between networks to choose the best deal for you instead of being locked to just one provider. 9. If you want to hang onto a phone for several years because it is reliable and you've grown attached to it - you can! You don't need to choose a new device after the contract is up or it's time to upgrade. 10. SIM only contracts are much cheaper than standard contract deals. SIM only can come in the form of contract and pay as you go and both of these options are a lot more flexible than the standard contract deals |
